Discoveries

Discoveries are optional gameplay enhancements found outside of standard quests and bosses. Each island has a set of discoveries so check your Progress tab on the main menu to track them. They are typically found in towns or along roads. A good rule of thumb: open your Journey Map, switch to night mode, and explore any lit-up areas.

Discoveries include speaking to citizens, opening containers and safes, unlocking doors, finding treasure chests, and reading records. Some are straightforward: open a container, get an item. Others are interconnected: an NPC gives you a key, a key unlocks a door, a scroll inside reveals a safe code, and the safe holds loot. Keep in mind that some discoveries may require items from later islands or give items to access locations on later islands.

Citizens

Talk to NPCs you find around the world. Citizens may gossip, share lore, give items, or drop clues about treasures. However, some require certain conditions to speak. For example, animals can only be spoken to once Observation Haki is maxed at level 10.

Records

Records are readable items like scrolls, books, and poneglyphs. Records never give items directly, but they can provide lore, safe codes, treasure clues, and other useful information.

Containers

Containers are wooden crates and mailboxes found inside or near buildings. They usually contain food and basic items of the sort or are empty, but sometimes hold useful items like keys and orbs.

Safes

Locked safes are found in homes. Each requires a code, which you can discover by speaking to citizens or reading records.

Treasures

Treasure chests can appear anywhere and not just in towns, so keep an eye out in the wilderness. Citizens and records may hint at their locations. All chests require a key to open. Keys can be obtained from NPCs, containers, safes, or by trading gathered resources.

Locations

Locations are behind locked doors with a black design that require a key or pass to enter. The key is consumed on first use, but afterward you can right-click the door to pass through freely. If other players don't have the location unlocked, they cannot follow you. Keep in mind that regular vanilla wooden and iron doors do not count as location discoveries.
